A Non-Representative Sample

It seems like a portfolio of technical work should be like a private art gallery: the ultimate display of skill. But really, it's more like a picture of a field of icebergs. Almost of all of the important details are hidden below the surface, and who knows how much things have changed since the photo was taken. A portfolio implies a history of work, but is not proof of expertise.

Copyright and Entropy

Almost everything we produce in life in a professional capacity is "work for hire", meaning the entity who footed the bill owns the finished product. I've developed complex software applications, built websites, designed graphics, and authored hundreds of pages of documentation, most of which I don't own. Including any of this in my portfolio is a risky business.

As time passes, the existence of my work in the wild steadily wanes. My former clients are bought and sold, abandon product lines, or decide to make updates in-house. For the subset of my efforts that were once widely available, such as public websites, I can provide links. Like all web links, unfortunately, they tend to rot over time.

To mitigate these factors, I provide links to historical versions of now-defunct websites through the Internet Archive project. Through the the doctrine of fair use, I display limited graphical representations of past work. If you need to see more, please contact me to arrange a meeting.
